Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth, also called the third molars, are the final teeth to appear and are located in the very back of your mouth. They typically grow in when you are 17-25 years old, although sometimes they don’t grow in at all.
While some wisdom teeth grow in normally, others may grow in at odd angles because there isn’t enough room, this may lead to your wisdom teeth becoming impacted beneath the gumline. Impacted and partially impacted wisdom teeth can cause discomfort and can accelerate tooth decay in neighbouring teeth, because they can be challenging to clean and care.
You may need wisdom teeth removal in Double Bay or Elizabeth Bay NSW by our dentist, or to alleviate discomfort and complications associated with impacted and partially impacted wisdom teeth.
How Do I Know if I Need Wisdom Teeth Extraction?
If the wisdom tooth grows in at an angle, it can shift the nearby teeth, disrupt the alignment of other teeth, or cause damage to the jawbone, and it also needs to be removed.
What Does the Wisdom Teeth Removal Process Entail?
When you schedule your appointment for wisdom teeth removal in Double Bay or Elizabeth Bay, you will be given pre-op instructions such as arranging for a friend or family member to escort you back home after your procedure.
During the dental extraction process, Dr Yee will administer local anaesthesia to numb the area. If you prefer, Dr Yee offers nitrous oxide to help you relax. If your wisdom tooth erupts above the gum line, Dr Yee performs a simple extraction to remove the wisdom tooth.
If your wisdom tooth is impacted under or partially under the gumline, Dr Yee will need to make an incision into the gums. He may need to section the tooth to remove it in pieces.
Dr Yee then cleans the dental extraction site of any debris with care, and stitches the wound shut to facilitate your recovery.

Light bleeding is normal, but avoid smoking, hard foods, or forceful activity which can dislodge the blood clot in the wound. Use an ice pack to reduce swelling in your cheeks.
